All tasks due today are shown, subtasks don’t crowd up the main list unless their parent task isn’t also due today. This is the behavior that would be intuitive to people. You can get the parent tasks by clicking on the subtask if you want to. In that case-like if random subtask in some project is due today, but it’s parent is not-it should show up unindented today’s list-because that’s all you need to do today regarding that tasks. If a person takes the time to structure a task as a subtask, it is a safe assumption that that is how they want to view it. But they should not be shown unindented in the main list, which is what people want to avoid with !subtask. Subtasks due today should still be shown, but they should be INDENTED under today’s parent task in a drop down list, and HIDEABLE by clicking on a carrot-how they used to be until phone versions switched.
People want to be able to see tasks due today without their subtasks crowding up their todo list. This whole issue is silly and it’s because Todoist has insisted on an unintuitive implementation of subtasks. Then random subtasks you’ve forgotten about, and which are due today, will still appear. That filter will block that subtask from appearing and you will miss it.Īnother option, which fixes this problem, is to create an filter and apply it to the subtasks you want to exclude, and use in your filter to exclude those subtasks. That can be a problem if, say, you are excluding subtasks from a filter of tasks due today, and you have some old subtask buried deep in a project somewhere that IS due today, but whose parent tasks ISN’T. That is, it will block ALL subtasks from your filter. Come on Todoist!īe careful! There is one thing to be aware of with !subtask, which may give you pause. In short, implement consistent, intuitive behavior across the app. You should be able to move your favorite filter or project into the top spot of the entire navigation bar, not just the top of the filter or project section. You should be able to manually sort all of them, or sort them automatically (such as by name) or by default. You should be able to indent tags and filters just like subprojects. Similarly, the navigation bar lists should all be editable in the same way. They are certainly capable of it, and Todoist can certainly implement it so it is still user-friendly beautiful and appealing. And you know, we are talking about computers here. Todoist's current exceptions to these consistencies are counter-intuitive and very limiting.
ANY view modifications you can do in one list you should be able to do in the others. A user should be able to view ALL lists (including projects, sections, tags, filters, subfilters, the Inbox, the Today View, and Upcoming) the way they want to, including in Boards sorted by default, drag & drop, or automatically in sections with subtasks indented synced to google calendar shared with others etc. This is another example of unintuitive inconsistencies in Todoist, which Todoist should concentrate on fixing before introducing further new features. If I'm missing something let me know, but I think the two features are exclusive of each other. Because you can only view projects (including the Inbox) as boards, and you can only exclude subtasks using "!subtask" in filters. I'm not sure it will affect the new Boards feature.
